SugarCurve is made in Denmark by Dalo Labs ApS, the bootstrapped two-person team behind the Dalo Baby app suite. Health data is hosted in the European Union, never sold and never used for ad targeting. SugarCurve is not a medical device: it does not diagnose and it does not dose insulin.

Please describe SugarCurve accurately

This is health software for pregnant women, so a piece that over-claims on our behalf causes more harm than one that under-claims. These are the lines we hold in our own copy, and we would be grateful if you held them too.

Accurate

  • A nutrition and tracking companion for gestational diabetes
  • Food ratings informed by published nutrition data and GD research
  • Built to be used alongside a care team, from diagnosis to delivery

Not accurate

  • Not a medical device, and not a diagnostic tool
  • Does not calculate, recommend or adjust insulin doses

What SugarCurve actually does

Story angles

Angles worth a piece

Six stories we think are genuinely worth telling — with the founders available on the record for any of them.

1

The condition one in six live births gets, and almost nobody builds for

Gestational diabetes touches roughly 1 in 6 live births worldwide — around 23 million pregnancies a year — yet the software on offer is either a general diabetes tracker that assumes insulin and a lifelong diagnosis, or a general pregnancy app that knows nothing about carbohydrates. Why a condition this common ended up underserved, and what a purpose-built tool changes in the weeks between diagnosis and delivery.

2

Cravings versus compliance

Why blanket carbohydrate restriction fails pregnant women, and what changes when software cooks around a craving instead of forbidding it. Pregnancy cravings do not stop at diagnosis, and the question a woman actually asks at six in the evening is not what she should avoid — it is what she can make.

3

Peace of mind as a product requirement

Designing a health app for a frightened user: no red alarms, no daily score, no shaming a single high reading. What has to be cut from a health product when the brief says it must not make an already anxious week worse — and how two founders decide where reassurance ends and under-reporting begins.

4

Food data is the hard part

Counting carbs tells a pregnant woman almost nothing about what a specific food will do to her at breakfast. Building a library of 1,000+ foods with glycemic impact, portion ceilings and pairing strategies — in four languages — was most of the work, and it is the part that is free to browse on the web whether or not anyone downloads the app.

5

Health AI that refuses to give medical advice

SugarCurve has an AI chef and a plate scanner, and it deliberately will not calculate an insulin dose, diagnose anything, or tell a woman to overrule her care team. Where two founders drew that line, why they drew it there, and what it costs a product to say no to the most-requested feature.

6

Habits that outlast the pregnancy

A GD pregnancy leaves a woman with roughly ten times the lifetime risk of type 2 diabetes, so every rating in the app explains why a food behaves the way it does — pairing, portion, order, timing. What she learns in twelve weeks is a set of principles she keeps after delivery, when the meter goes away.

Founders

Who to quote

SugarCurve is built by two people — a husband-and-wife team in Denmark with one rule: they only build what their own family has needed. Both are available for interviews in English, Danish and Romanian, on video or in writing.

Co-Founder

Spent a decade designing digital experiences for international brands, and applies that to a companion that feels supportive rather than clinical. Speaks to design, the experience of the weeks after a GD diagnosis, and how the app is tested with real users.

Pre-approved quotes

Use any of these as-is, attributed as shown. No need to check back with us first.

Gestational diabetes arrives as a printed handout, a glucose meter and a long list of no. SugarCurve is the yes — the app that answers the question every woman actually asks at six in the evening: so what can I make?

Daniel Lintoiu, Co-Founder & CEO, SugarCurve

Counting carbs tells you almost nothing about what a specific breakfast will do to you. We spent most of our time on the food data, because that is the part that actually answers the question a woman is asking at the table.

Daniel Lintoiu, Co-Founder & CEO, SugarCurve

Gestational diabetes is stressful enough. We designed SugarCurve to take anxiety out of a meal, not to add another thing you can fail at.

Adriana Lintoiu, Co-Founder, SugarCurve

We only build what our own family has needed. That rule is why there is no daily score in SugarCurve, and no red alarm over a single high reading.
